Waste

What's collected when

The collection calendar for the whole year is on the notice board, and we also hand it out on paper. Put your bin out the evening before collection, not in the morning.

General waste

Every second Tuesday, even weeks. Put the bin out by the road by 6:00 — the truck goes through the village between six and ten.

2× a month

Recycling

Green bin, once a month on the first Thursday. Clean, dry and loose — you can pick up recycling stickers at the office free of charge.

1× a month

Glass and cans

Bottle banks at the council office, at the playground and at the cemetery. They're emptied as they fill, usually every three weeks.

bottle banks, 24/7

Bulky and hazardous waste

Twice a year, in spring and autumn. Skips stand at the playground for three days; we announce the dates on local radio and on the notice board.

FAQ

What you ask us most often

Do I have to come in person, or can I do it online?

Most applications can be made online or by email, and some services work with a verified MyGovID. You need to come in person when we have to check your identity. Give us a call and we'll tell you for your particular case.

When do I have to pay commercial rates?

We send out rates bills in the spring. You can pay in two halves during the year, and a bill over €100 can also be split into monthly instalments by direct debit — you need to ask for that; it doesn't happen automatically.

I've bought a house in the area. What do I need to tell you?

Local Property Tax is paid to Revenue, not to us — the owner on 1 November files the return. With us, update your address on the register of electors, and if you'll use the recycling centre, get a household permit. It can all be done in one visit.

How do I apply for tree works?

With an application to the council stating the species, the trunk girth and the reason. It takes up to 30 days, and the fee is €10 for an individual. Cutting is generally only allowed from September to February, outside the bird nesting season. Without permission you risk a fine, and it isn't small.

Can I hire the community hall?

Yes — for a party, a wake or a course. Residents pay half. Book at the office at least two weeks ahead; the deposit is €50 and is returned once the hall is handed back in good order.

Where can I find what the councillors have decided?

The minutes and decisions are on the notice board and here on the website; we publish them within ten days of the meeting. The archive goes back to 2015. If you're looking for something older, call us and we'll look it up in the records.

Contact

Get in touch

Call before you come in — we can answer most things over the phone and save you the trip. Outside public office days we're in the office, we just don't see the public.

The business's phone and email are left out on purpose — this is an example website of a made-up business and we don't want anyone calling or writing to a stranger's number. A real website would show your contact details here. If you'd like a website like this, write to apoliak@apoliak.online.

We respond to applications within 30 days, and to ordinary questions usually within two working days.
