Inspection and testing
When your inspection is really due
This is the question we get asked most. The recommended intervals depend on the environment and the type of building — here are the ones that apply to most of our customers.
Apartment blocks and apartments
The common areas of an apartment block, including basements, corridors and the lift motor room. A private apartment doesn't need periodic testing by law, but more and more buyers ask for a report when you sell.
Shops and offices
Premises where the public or staff spend time. Without a current test report, your insurer can reduce a payout for electrical damage — and usually does.
Workshops and damp premises
Environments with water, dust or mechanical wear: washrooms, garages, joinery workshops, farm buildings. Temporary socket supplies on building sites belong here too.
New builds and extensions
The completion certificate that ESB Networks needs before it connects a new supply. We do it once the installation is finished, but we recommend calling us as early as the wiring design stage.
Electrical appliances and tools
Extension leads, drills, coffee machines and anything an employee holds in their hand (PAT testing). We can do it in bulk on your premises — one visit, one summary report.
Lightning protection
A visual check and an earth resistance measurement. For systems with an active air terminal the interval is shorter — it follows the manufacturer's documentation.

How it works
Five steps from phone call to certificate
You call
Tell us what kind of property it is and what's needed. If we can solve it over the phone, we'll advise you straight away and won't charge for it.
We come for a site visit
Within three working days, at a time that suits you. The site visit is free even if you end up choosing someone else.
You get a quote
Within 48 hours, itemised and with a date. It's valid for 30 days and doesn't change during the work unless you change the brief.
We do the work
We stick to the agreed dates. We clean up after ourselves every day, and in a home you're living in we work so that you have lights and a working fridge in the evening.
We hand over with paperwork
The certificate, a consumer unit diagram and a list of circuits. We email you photos of the cables in the walls — handy every time you drill.

FAQ
What you ask us most often
Do I have to move out during a rewire?
Usually not. In an apartment we work room by room and leave at least the lights, the fridge and one kitchen socket working overnight. You're only without power while the consumer unit is switched over, which takes two to four hours, and we agree the time in advance.
We still have the original old wiring. Does it really need replacing?
Old wiring isn't banned in itself, but after fifty years it's done its time — connections loosen and heat up. If you're adding circuits or replacing the consumer unit anyway, it's worth rewiring at the same time. We'll also tell you honestly when it can still wait.
Do you chase the walls and make good afterwards?
Yes, both. We chase with an industrial wall chaser with dust extraction, so there's a fraction of the dust you'd get with a hammer. Filling the chases is a separate item — we hand the walls over ready for the painter, but we don't do the painting.
How quickly will I get the certificate?
Within three working days of testing, electronically and on paper. If you need it for a connection on a particular date, tell us in advance — we can issue it on the day of testing.
What if the inspection finds a fault?
We record it in the report with a proposal for fixing it, and tell you whether it's a defect that stops the premises being used or a recommendation. We'll offer to do the repair, but you don't have to book it with us — the report stands no matter who fixes the fault.
Can you invoice a company?
Yes, we're VAT registered. We invoice businesses with 14-day terms, or 30 days for regular customers. For apartment blocks we can invoice the managing agent and hand the report straight to the owners' management company.
What's the guarantee?
Five years on our work; materials we supply carry the manufacturer's warranty, usually two years. If something goes wrong, we'll come and look within 48 hours, and if it's our fault we fix it free of charge, call-out included.
